Washington State Dept. of L&I adopted a 6.51% fee increase for programs involving trades

washington state department of labor and industries - trades and licensing

Hello,
The Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) adopted a 6.51% fee increase for programs involving the trades. This includes Contractor Registration, Electrical, Elevator, FAS and Plumber services.
The fee increases take effect July 1. At the end of this notice is a list of areas in the Washington Administrative Code (WAC) the fee increase involves.
About the fee increase
L&I examined several factors that led to the fee increase to cover operating expenses. This included needed services in each program, operations, and inspector services. The amount of the increase is the fiscal growth factor for fiscal year 2027. The increase represents the average personal income growth over the past decade.
The agency also adopted a 10-cent increase to the application cost of an electrician exam application fee. The increase resulted from a previous agency error. The cost covers the nonrefundable fee for master, journey level, specialty, and reciprocal electrician exams. Exam costs vary based on the category.
L&I filed a Rulemaking Order (CR-103) to adopt the changes on May 5. You can find information about this rulemaking at L&I’s Rulemaking Activity website or the Contractor, Electrical, Elevator, FAS, and Plumbers laws and rules pages.
These programs are all a part of L&I’s Customer Service, Compliance, and Public Safety Division. It was formerly Field Services and Public Safety.
If you need additional information or have questions about the fee increase process, please contact Meagan Edwards at 360-522-0125, or CSCPSRules@Lni.wa.gov.
