SR 20 North Cascade Hwy MP 171-184 Closure Update

A message to North Cascades enthusiasts,
State Route 20 closed for the season on December 4 between Ross Dam trailhead (milepost 134) and Silver Star gate (milepost 171). On December 10, intense rain and wind led to multiple mudslides and flooding of the Little Boulder Creek, which forced the closure of the highway from Silver Star to milepost 184.
This closure between milepost 171 and 184 is for safety. This is a complex event, and we are working ahead of winter snowstorms to restore Little Boulder Creek channelization and access to the highway.
A request to recreationalists
We are mobilizing for emergency project work between milepost 171 and 184 and for the time being we ask that you stay out of the closure area at all times. We will be working 7 days a week for extended hours to complete repairs. Your attention to this request will ensure we can do this work safely.
Stay tuned…
A substantive update of the emergency contract work will be shared shortly. As a lifelong Washingtonian and communicator on the North Cascades Highway beat for 6 years now, I know the importance of the “North Cross” for the community, so I want to personally thank you all for your patience as we have responded to a state-wide event. As of today, there is still no estimated time to reopen.
Flooding and mudslides have forced closures throughout the state and changes can happen quickly. Check the real time travel map for current traffic conditions.
Sincerely,
Lauren Loebsack, communications, 509-667-2815
