Skagit Valley College Introduces Handshake Employer Recruiting Platform

The Burlington Chamber of Commerce recently received information from Skagit Valley College regarding a new resource for local employers, and we wanted to share it with our business community. We believe this opportunity may provide value to many of our members who are looking to recruit employees, connect with emerging talent, offer internships, or build stronger relationships with the local workforce.

Skagit Valley College is transitioning to Handshake, a modern job board and recruiting platform focused on connecting employers with early-career talent.

Through Handshake, employers will have access to a free, centralized platform where they can promote job and internship opportunities directly to SVC students and alumni. The platform is designed to increase the visibility of available positions and help employers connect with candidates whose skills and interests align with their workforce needs.

What Employers Need to Know

In early October, employers will begin receiving invitations from Handshake to create a free employer account. According to SVC, the signup process takes less than five minutes.

Employers who already use Handshake will be able to simply add Skagit Valley College to their existing network of schools.

SVC students are expected to receive access to the platform in early November. Employers are encouraged to connect with SVC through Handshake and post available positions by the end of October so their opportunities are ready when students begin using the system.

Virtual Employer Support Available

Skagit Valley College will offer several virtual drop-in sessions for employers who would like assistance getting started with Handshake:

  • Tuesday, October 13 | 4:00–5:00 PM
  • Thursday, October 22 | 12:00–1:00 PM
  • Wednesday, October 28 | 12:00–1:00 PM

Employers who are unable to attend a drop-in session may contact SVC Career Connections at careerconnections@skagit.edu for assistance.

More Ways to Connect with SVC

Skagit Valley College also encourages local employers to explore its Employer & Industry Partners resources to learn more about opportunities to:

  • Hire SVC students and graduates
  • Host interns
  • Connect with emerging local talent
  • Partner with the college on customized workforce training

Employers can also explore Handshake's Employer Help Center and Handshake Employer Academy for additional information and training resources.

The Burlington Chamber of Commerce is pleased to help share opportunities like this that can connect our local business community with workforce resources and potential future employees.
