SUMMARY:Business Education Session: WA Saves - Retirement Plan Market Update
DESCRIPTION:Event hosted by:\n\nKari Kennedy\, Financial Advisor\, Edward Jones and\n\nJeff Hunkins\, Retirement Plan Counselor of Capital Group | American Funds\n\nGuest Speaker: Kurt Oswell\, Pension Consultant\, Farmer & Betts\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin the Business Education Session: WA Saves Retirement Plan Market Update hosted by the Burlington Chamber of Commerce!\n\nWashington employers\, this one matters.\n\nWashington Saves is a new state-facilitated retirement savings program expected to launch in 2027. It's designed as a simple\, no-fee way to help employees save for retirement through automatic payroll deductions into an IRA.\n\nDuring this session\, we'll cover:\n\n What Washington Saves is and how it works\n\n Which employers are required to participate\n\n Key requirements under state law\n\n How automatic enrollment works for employees 18+\n\n What "no employer fees\, no employer contributions\, and no fiduciary responsibility" really means\n\n Important updates related to Secure 2.0 and retirement plan legislation\n\nUnder current law\, employers may be required to participate if they:\n\n Have operated in Washington for 2+ years\n\n Have a physical presence in the state\n\n Employ 10\,400+ hours per year collectively\, roughly equal to 5 full-time employees\n\n Do not currently offer a qualified retirement plan\n\nWe'll also discuss why this matters beyond compliance. Studies show employees are significantly more likely to save when payroll deduction is available\, and businesses offering retirement benefits often see stronger retention.\n\n Lunch will be provided by Avenue Catering.\n\n Please register by Monday\, March 23 at noon so we can provide our caterer with an accurate headcount.\n\nChamber members attend with lunch included. Non-members are welcome with a $5 minimum donation.\n\nIf you're a business owner\, HR professional\, or anyone responsible for employee benefits\, this session will give you clarity\, confidence\, and practical next steps before the 2027 launch.\n\nSave your seat today and stay ahead of the curve.\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Presenters:\n\n \n\n	\n \n \n Kari Kennedy was born and raised in Mount Vernon\, Washington\, and continues to regard Skagit County as unmatched in its beauty and distinct seasons.
