SVGS Presents "Chinese Boxes and Slender Threads: Surprises from the Past"
Skagit Valley Genealogical Society (SVGS) presents, “Chinese Boxes and Slender Threads: Surprises from the Past,” presented by retired college dean, Dr. Bill Langworthy.
This educational genealogy presentation will be held at the SVGS monthly meeting on Saturday, February 11, from 1:00-3:00pm, Burlington Senior/Community Center, 1011 Greenleaf Ave., Burlington, WA. SVGS members and the public are invited to attend. For more information: skagitvalleygenealogy.org or questions contact genealogy0715@gmail.com. Here is what Dr. Langworthy says about his February 11 presentation: “As genealogists, we add individuals to a family file, we pay attention to and have rigid standards for vital statistics...birth date, marriage, death, etc. But even properly vetted, these hard nuggets provide only the "skeleton" of a person. How do we clothe, add hair and eyes and grin, and breathe life into our data? Often, we must delve into what seem empty boxes, pull on threads of connection, and place our evolving subject into the context of time and location. When those connections are made, we gain insight into the existence of a long-gone soul. There-in is the researcher’s reward.”
