Ever wondered where Skippy from “Family Ties” is these days?
Well, it turns out he’s doing what he’s always wanted to do: standup comedy. And that’s bringing him to Concrete.
The famously geeky Irwin “Skippy” Handleman was the best buddy of the star’s show, Michael J. Fox. His real name is Marc Price and he will perform a show at the Concrete Theatre, 45920 Main Street in Concrete, on Saturday, June 3 at 7:30 p.m.
Since “Family Ties” went off the air in 1989, Price has predominantly acted as writer/producer for cable television networks such as Disney Channel, Food Network, Animal Planet, GSN, Showtime, as well as producing the TBS game show Midnight Money Madness.
Sometimes he still gets called “Skippy” in public, he says, but he doesn’t mind. He’s not one of those actors who resents talking about past pursuits.
How often does he see his fellow cast mates from “Family Ties”? “We had a big reunion a few years ago,” he said. “Individually, we’ll meet up in different clumps and capacities. That’s been a lot of fun – I do love everybody on the show.”
His standup show doesn’t have much “Family Ties”-related material; many audience members are too young to remember the show, he said.
Standup comedy is “what I’ve been born to do,” Price said. The way he sees it, “Family Ties” was a handy way to introduce himself to the general public. “It was really fun to (be on the show),” he said. “I wouldn’t trade it in for the world.” Known for his smart writing, Marc is able to dance on the line of clean comedy while still keeping an edge. His show takes a hilarious look at the world from an outsider's point of view and mixes in his own life experiences from growing up in one of the coldest places on earth to his current role as a stay-at-home dad and "trophy husband.”
“Obviously people watched me in my awkward teen years,” Price said. “Now they can come out live and watch me in my awkward adult years.”
